Story: Flashback: Buzzing Delights
Episode: 9
Presenter: Caroline Taylor
Air Date: 2 November 2025

Throwback on Caroline gets a buzz on her tastebuds at the House of Honey in the Swan Valley.

  • Located in the picturesque Swan Valley, The House of Honey is a sanctuary for local bees and hives. This family-owned business has been nurturing and protecting bees for over 30 years, with the added bonus of crafting delicious, pure honey.
  • Rupert's fascination with bees began at age eight on his family's South African farm, where he observed a colony in a tree. After relocating to Australia in 1982, beekeeping became a lifestyle for Rupert and his wife, Kim. Their dream of creating a honey shop and café led Rupert to purchase a well-established apiary and start commercial beekeeping in 2005. In 2008, construction of "The House of Honey and The Sticky Spoon Café" began, opening to the public in 2010.
  • Beyond honey production, bees are crucial pollinators that support Australia's natural beauty, ecosystems, and agricultural success. They are essential for pollinating crops and flowers, benefiting both the environment and our food supply.
  • Since opening in 2010, The House of Honey has evolved from a simple honey shop to a comprehensive bee and honey experience. They expanded to include a café, Meadery, and a variety of workshops, all aimed at providing an immersive experience for every visitor.
  • Their Five Senses Experience allows visitors to:
    • Taste honey at the tasting bar.
    • Hear stories from our beekeepers.
    • See their observation hive.
    • Smell honey from a working hive.
    • Touch beehive frames during a tour.
