Bone Broth

Story: Bone Broth
Episode: 1
Presenter: Caroline Taylor
Air Date: 31st August

Caroline shares her method for making bone broth, which is great for gut health, immunity, inflammation, and many other health benefits.

Ingredients

  • Mix of marrow bones (Cut down into smaller pieces - larger bones like beef and lamb take longer to break down than smaller ones)
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Charred vegetables

Method

  • Roast marrow bone for 30 mins until caramelisation
  • Add in charred vegetables
  • Add bones and vegetables to a large stockpot or slow cooker. Fill it with as much water as it will let you and bring it to a low boil. For best results, boil for 18 - 24 hours.
  • Check on the pot occasionally and use a shallow kitchen spoon to skim off the top into a bowl or bucket.
  • Add a bit of vinegar to help extract the minerals from the bones
  • Use tongs to remove the big bones, and then a slotted spoon for the smaller joints and vegetables
  • Strain with a chux cloth in a sieve (Strain a couple times for clarity)

Note: Can freeze for later use
