Airdate: Ep. 8, 16 June 2019
Presenter: Shy Vishnumohan
It feels like every week we hear about a new superfood said to help us reach our ultimate health goals and prevent all kinds of diseases. Dr. Shy redefines the word superfoods and you’d be surprised to find you probably already have all of them in your pantry or fridge!
- The labelling of superfoods comes down to clever marketing
- The superfood industry is a billion-dollar industry
- Superfoods are really just ordinary nutrient dense foods.
- They can be any fruit, any vegetable, your everyday spices, pulses, oily fish, yogurt, nuts, seeds or eggs.
- Simply put, your everyday foods are all superfoods!
- Shy says superfoods are your local foods, they should be grown close by to where you live
- A good example would be Australian Sweet Lupins, they coexist with their environment and create a symbiotic relationship with the soil and climate they live in
- Dr. Shy believes that superfoods can also be those tied in tradition and good memories
